First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kobre & Kim.
Litigation Assistant
It started with a video interview which was pretty basic, mostly behavioral questions and asking for introductory info. Then there was a second round, a longer interview with two current LAs. This round was a lot of behavioral questions and gave good info about what the job actually looks like. The third round was a management interview for a specific office.
- Tell me about a time you had to make a tough decision for your team.
Lawyer
So first there's a screener with a recruiter. Then, if that goes well, maybe a second screener with an attorney. After that, you do a series of interviews with some senior leaders in the practice group, like 2 to 4 of them. Then, there might be an interview with some senior lawyers from the office you'd be joining to see if you're a cultural fit. Finally, there's a writing test, kind of like a take-home law school exam.
- Can you describe a situation where you faced adversity and how you dealt with it?
- Could you share an example of a problem you encountered and the steps you took to resolve it?
Summer Analyst Intern
The process was pretty good, starting with a Spark Hire video interview featuring three basic behavioral questions. This was followed by a Superday, conducted via Zoom two weeks later. The Superday included a 50-minute behavioral interview and a 50-minute analytical interview, both with two analysts. Although I prepared extensively using online resources and felt I performed well, connecting with interviewers and answering confidently, I was ultimately rejected five days later. In retrospect, I might not have invested so much time in preparation, as many applicants likely receive Superdays, especially since they are virtual and cost-effective for the company. So, don't get overly optimistic about getting a Superday, like I did. I've still left some questions below in case you're interested.
- Tell me about a situation where you were given a task you felt was unnecessary by a lawyer.
- Be prepared to discuss your writing samples, including why you wrote it, what inspired you, and how you might change it.
- Explain something you're very knowledgeable about in simple terms.
Analyst
I applied for their analyst programme after graduating from law school, and a few weeks later I got an invite for a first-round interview. This interview was with two people currently in the programme. They were younger than me and lacked the experience or qualifications to interview me, someone with a law degree, multiple degrees and half a decade of professional experience. They asked basic job interview questions, seemed to not listen to my answers, and the whole thing felt odd, unserious and amateurish. A few days later, I got a rejection email stating other candidates were a better match, despite my qualifications being an exact match for the role. I feel like I dodged a bullet, given how unserious the interview process was.
