Retail Manager
Pretty straightforward hiring process, involved a background check. Didn't need to meet high standards to get hired and progress quickly.
- What motivates you to join our company?
Assistant Store Manager
I was presented with the application in 3 emailed phases. The last phase was an assessment that took about 40 minutes. The company wasted my time with this assessment because I know I aced it. Even though I don't have a lot of retail experience, which they knew from the start, they still made me take the test. I have an accounting degree and an MBA, plus many years of leadership experience. Within hours of taking the exam, I got a rejection from K Mart saying they were impressed with my talents but wouldn't move forward. Basically, I think I was too old for them. Honestly, seeing the quality of managers K Mart currently has, this quick rejection makes me realize one of their big problems is not hiring experienced business people who could actually help turn the company around. They really need to re-evaluate their hiring guidelines.
- How many training classes could you schedule given a certain amount of employee interest and capacity, and how many would you have to postpone?
- How would you resolve conflict scenarios with employees?
- Based on reading graphs, what are the percentages of budgeted expenses in relation to budgeted sales?
Store Manager
The interview process involved an initial recruiter pre-screening phone call, followed by a total of 6 interviews with various individuals including a Recruiter, Store Manager, District Manager, Regional Operations Manager, Regional HR Manager, and the VP of Stores. Despite it being a bit lengthy for my preference, the overall experience was positive with a good vibe from everyone. It was a smooth process. After the interviews and an offer, there's a drug test and electronic paperwork.
