Customer Service Representative
I applied online and then got a call back in about 3-4 days. They asked me to come in for an interview later that week. I got there a bit early, like ten minutes before, and just waited by the Service Desk for the HR Manager. She met me and took me to her office. She had a list of questions and asked them to me. I had already prepped for this using Glassdoor, so I knew what to say for everything. After that, she brought in the Assistant Manager who asked me about my availability and my past work. They hired me right then and there, and said they'd let me know my schedule once the background check and paperwork were sorted.

I applied online for Kmart via the Sears Holding Company website and was prompted to schedule an interview. I called the store and spoke with the HR manager, who invited me in for an interview the same day. When I got to the store, a CSA called the HR manager, and we went to her office for the first interview. It was a simple process. She wanted me to have a second interview with the store manager, which I did right after the first one. I was offered a position, conditionally I assume. It would have been nice for the 'offer' to be clearer. I still need to bring a list of previous residences (8 years back), my SS card, and a drivers license for processing and a background check. I assume I'll have to pass a drug test too, but I guess I'll find out when I go back in.
- Can you share an instance where you went above and beyond what was required for a job?
- Describe a situation where you met a performance target.

I talked to the HR Manager before Christmas about a job. She told me to reapply and she'd call in January. She called during New Year's weekend to schedule an interview for the next Monday. The interview went fine, and she asked how I'd handle different situations. She said she was really impressed and gave me a preliminary offer, pending a drug test and background check. She called the next Tuesday with a job offer and told me to come in for orientation on Friday, Jan. 14th. When I arrived a bit early for orientation, I was told to wait for the HR manager, who hadn't gotten there yet. Some other new hires were also waiting. After waiting 20 minutes past the start time, someone came out and said the HR manager had an emergency and would call me Monday. Monday passed without a call. On Tuesday, I called to check in, but she was still out. I haven't heard anything since. Even though the interview itself was good and the HR manager was professional, the rest of the process was really unprofessional. I'm guessing it was reverse discrimination or something like Affirmative Action, because of the mix of people working there. I thought about complaining to corporate but decided against it since I didn't really want to work there anyway after researching them. It's not worth my time, and I've already been offered a job at a better company.
