First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at KKR.
Software Development Engineer
The first round was a technical screen focusing on SQL, DSA, and LLD. For SQL, they wanted to see comfort with JOINs, subqueries, GROUP BY, HAVING, and WINDOW functions, and the ability to write queries for practical problems like finding the second highest salary. For DSA, the focus was on arrays, strings, hashing, recursion, linked lists, and stacks/queues, with an expectation of Leetcode Easy/Medium level problems including sliding window, binary search, and two pointers. For LLD, it was about object-oriented design, with examples like designing a Parking Lot or Library Management system, emphasizing class diagrams, SOLID principles, and extensibility. The second round also involved DSA and core CS subjects. DSA problems were more advanced, covering trees, graphs, DP, and greedy algorithms, with 1-2 medium/hard coding problems and a need to practice dry-running and optimizing code. Core subjects depended on background but typically included OS (process vs thread, deadlocks), DBMS (transactions, ACID), CN (TCP vs UDP, OSI model), and OOPs (inheritance, polymorphism). The third round was an HR interview for culture fit, communication, and motivation, including standard behavioral questions.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why this company or this role?
- What was your biggest achievement or failure?
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process included a 30-minute meeting with the hiring manager. They asked behavioral questions and probed into my resume, specifically about my projects and product experience. I was told to prepare for questions about those areas and also for some technical questions related to the product.
- Can you share a product you really like and explain how you'd make it better?
- Could you talk about some of the projects you've worked on and your experience with products?
- Are you ready to answer some technical questions that involve the product?
Software Engineer
The interview process had no technical interviews. It consisted of three zoom calls, one of which was with the US Office. The first call was with the tech team located in Hong Kong. The second call was with the tech lead based in New York. The final call was with business users.
- Can you tell me about your experience in engineering?
