First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at KIXEYE.
Recruiter
A staffing agency sent my resume to Kixeye for two job openings, and then I got a call for a phone interview. It was a quick 15 minutes. First, they asked what I knew about the company, and I was ready with the basics since I'd researched it. Then they asked if I'd played their games. I said yes, talked about what I liked and noticed, and then tried to shift the focus to my skills. After that, they invited me for an in-person interview later that week. The office looked modern and colorful, with a fast-paced but chill vibe. People seemed nice. The interview itself was two hours long, and I met with four different people, one-on-one each time. They all seemed to like their jobs and colleagues, but they also mentioned being overworked and that the company lacked structure on the administrative side.
- Tell me about a time you made a significant mistake and how you rectified it.
- Imagine you realize at 3am that you forgot to inform your boss about an important meeting scheduled for 7am that same day at a downtown cafe. What action do you take?
UI Artist
Got referred by someone there, then a recruiter hit me up about a week later to do an art test. Sent it back and then got asked to come onsite pretty quick, like a few hours later. Took over a week to get the onsite scheduled, but the recruiter was super cool and helpful when I asked for some in-game currency to get familiar with the games. The onsite interview itself was about 2 hours long. I met with 7 people from the team and they all asked some really good questions and answered mine really well. Everyone was really open to talking, and I felt like I could really be myself and say what I needed to say. The only weird one was being asked about past conflicts with coworkers. Seemed kinda out of place for this kind of role, felt more like something for HR or customer service, and it was phrased kinda negatively. The recruiter let me know less than a week after that they weren't moving forward with my application. All in all, it was a pretty smooth process, they were always on time and nice with communication, and the art test and interviews were actually helpful for me to learn. Plus, the office looked pretty cool! Glad I got to check it out.
- Can you tell me about a time you had a conflict with a coworker and how you handled it?
Senior Software Engineer
Got contacted by 2 recruiters which was a bit confusing bc they didn't mention each other and sounded like they were recruiting for different positions. First was a technical phone screen, then a coding challenge, then another phone screen. After that, I had an onsite that went way longer than I was told - they said 2 hrs but it ended up being 3.5 hrs with meeting more people. The last step was a scheduled call with the CTO, which a third recruiter kept delaying. Never heard back after that, so I guess they found someone else.
- You'll need to sign an NDA before going onto the floor, are you okay with that?
- It's possible you won't get to see the actual engineering floor, is that alright with you?
Manager, Purchasing and Administration
I got an email from HR asking about my availability to chat with the hiring manager over the phone. It was easy to schedule, and the hiring manager called me right on time. During the call, I was surprised to find out I was being interviewed for a different role than the one I applied to. However, the 'new' job still caught my interest, so I decided to continue with the interview. The hiring manager was nice, but seemed quite confused that he was interviewing me for a position I wasn't aware of or hadn't been informed about.
- Can you tell me about a past project where you felt your creative input was most significant?
