The interview process was pretty straight forward, but they wanted me to do a trial period in the position before they would hire me. I declined to go through the hiring process in that way. I let them know I was either accepting the position or declining, and I wasn't going to do a temporary try-out period.

My initial interview was in October with the District Manager at a store that wasn't the one I applied to. The DM asked about basic operations and merchandising. I felt it went well, but they were really focused on whether I'd want to work at that specific store, which was too far for me to commute daily. I asked about the position I originally applied for, and they mentioned something might open up soon. A couple of months later, in December, I got an email asking if I was still interested in the original store's position. I met with the store manager a few days after. It was pretty laid-back. She asked about my management style – if I'm hands-on, lead by example, and about my physical capabilities like climbing ladders, lifting, and working freight. It felt a bit odd that the assistant manager role had been open for a while and the start date was after Christmas. The interview itself was fine, though I felt I had more experience than she was looking for. I never heard back after that, and sometimes the same job posting reappears.

A couple of weeks later, I got a call for an in-person interview. It was pretty straightforward, just the usual retail questions. The store manager was really nice and we had a good chat.
