The interview process usually involves three stages: first, an HR phone call, then an interview with the hiring manager (who is typically the lab director overseeing your specific lab), and finally, an interview with the Chief Science Officer (CSO), who manages all national labs. Following these interviews, there's an on-site visit where you spend a full day at the facility.

I talked to someone about a month ago and they were interested, but then they mentioned a merger and said they'd get back to me in a week. After that, I went through three interview rounds. Then nothing. Turns out the job was taken down. They never followed up. It's a shame, feels like this happens a lot with them.

I had an initial conversation with HR. I really liked the company's mission and their focus on design in healthcare. But, the role's expectations seemed way too high. This job would require designing, managing design, liaising, helping real estate scout new sites, handling all FF&E standards including finding suppliers, budgeting, buying, and storing everything, PLUS traveling over half the time to open one clinic every month with absolutely no support from a designer or assistant. That's a massive red flag for me. I've been doing this long enough to know that's not realistic for one person. The interviewer was nice, and I didn't want to waste either of our time, so I brought up my concerns early on. We both realized it wasn't a good fit for me. Honestly, it doesn't seem like a healthy work/life balance for anyone.
