It started with a recruiter reaching out after I applied. We chatted about the role, next steps, and benefits. Then, I had a call with the hiring manager to go over the role more. She mentioned a take-home assignment and a panel discussion afterwards to review my thinking. I got the assignment on Monday, which took about 4 hours to complete, and sent it back Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, I got a rejection email saying they weren't moving forward, and I felt the process was a bit of a joke because they didn't even want to discuss the assignment I spent hours on. They didn't give any real feedback, just a generic rejection. Later, the recruiter gave more details, but it seemed to contradict the assignment instructions and the hiring manager's initial message. It felt like they were hesitant to make a decision, offered low pay, and had confusing communication.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

So I didn't end up getting an offer from Kin, but their whole interview process was pretty smooth and well thought out, one of the best I've seen. It was basically three steps: first, an HR chat, then a 1-on-1 with the hiring manager, and finally, a take-home assignment followed by a panel discussion. The whole thing wrapped up in under two weeks, and they were super flexible with scheduling. I applied online and heard back from the recruiter a couple weeks later. It was a typical phone screen. The recruiter actually knew a good bit about product management, which was surprising since it's not his background. My chat with the product director was scheduled for the very next day. It was mostly standard behavioral and scenario questions, but he also threw in some basic SQL questions that someone with a decent understanding of SQL could handle. The prod director was really sharp but also really nice. What I really liked was that he told me right then and there that he was moving me to the next round. You'd think that kind of thing would be common, but nope, lol. The homework was to create a strategy proposal based on a general outline they gave me. I then had to present it to a panel that included the hiring manager, a marketing director, and a research director. This was probably the hardest part because they had all read my proposal and had some tricky questions ready. But honestly, they were all super professional, friendly, and smart, and it was a good meeting overall. When I didn't get the job, the recruiter called me to give me the news and some feedback. I really appreciated that personal touch, especially since I've heard of companies making people go through like five or six rounds of interviews just to reject them with an automated email. Like I said, it was a great process at what seems like a really good company. Fingers crossed for you!

I had my initial phone screening. I was told to expect an update in a few days but I never heard from anyone again even after I sent a follow up email. Based on other reviews, seems like ghosting candidates is normal for this company. Don’t waste your time.
