Store Manager
Very professional interview. Smart questions, they were very interested in my experience and goals. The recruiter was kind and made me feel comfortable, letting me express myself naturally. The company projects seriousness and offers growth opportunities.
- Tell me about your professional journey.
Assistant Store Manager
It started with a recruiter call, then a store manager interview, followed by an area manager interview on Teams, and finally an in-person interview with another area manager. I felt overly experienced for the role since I'm currently a store manager. The recruiter seemed really keen to set things up quickly, which gave me some hope. The interviews seemed to go well, but then I got a rejection email with no clear reason, which felt like a waste of time.
- Given that it's a demanding role, can you describe a situation where you worked under pressure and how you managed it?
Store Manager
I applied via indeed, originally for a different role. Had a 10 min telephone interview, then was invited to a face-to-face interview at head office which was relaxed. A week later, I was invited to a second interview and was told they were now interviewing me for a different role. This completely threw me as I hadn't prepared for it and it definitely affected me during the interview. I found this unfair, as I would have prepared a relevant plan if I'd known, and not been caught off guard. One thing that stood out was being asked at all three interview stages if I'd performance managed someone out of a business. There seemed to be more of a focus on how I'd discipline and dismiss someone, rather than how I'd improve someone's performance and turn things around. I get this is a standard question, but the emphasis on how I'd get rid of an employee doesn't seem very inviting. I was not contacted about my interview and had to contact them. I was told I was unsuccessful and received no feedback, just a generic response. Had I been told I was interviewing for a different position, I know I would have nailed the interview.
- How would you performance manage a staff member out of the business?
- How would you train a new staff member quickly on the shop floor?
- If you were £500 away from our target, what would you do to ensure you achieve your target on that day?
