Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kiewit Corporation.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
I got an interview at a career fair. From there, it was labeled a 'meet and greet,' which had behavioral-based questions and focused on how candidates align with the company's values. It was casual and very chill, and they took notes on what I said.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a decision that wasn't popular, and you held your ground?
Mechanical Design Engineer
I first connected with Kiewit recruiters at a college career fair and they took my resume. A few weeks later, I got an email to do an online HireVue video interview, which was pretty easy and I could do it anytime. They also had practice questions. Then, I had a phone interview for HR to check my desired position. A few weeks after that, they flew me out to Lenexa for a final interview with department managers. They covered all my travel costs and took me to a nice dinner. The whole process was super organized and professional, and they made it really laid back. I'm waiting for an offer now.
- Why did you choose to become an engineer?
- What are your career aspirations at Kiewit?
- How do you see yourself fitting in with Kiewit?
Mechanical Engineer
I was straight-up ghosted by Kiewit. I interviewed for a role that needed 3-10 years of experience and I was at the 10-year end. I knew I was qualified from the posting, it was obvious during the phone interview, and the HR rep gave good feedback. But then, radio silence. Nothing from the interviewer. I left a voicemail for the HR rep. Nothing. Not even an email saying they chose someone else. I applied for a job, not a date. I figure they found someone with 5 or 7 years they could pay less. Or just a lack of professional courtesy.
- What would be your approach to addressing pump cavitation issues at a client site?
