First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kenworth Truck.
Senior Software Engineer
This was an experience-based interview process with 2 rounds. First, there was a phone screening, then an in-person interview with the hiring manager. They seemed to follow a predetermined checklist and asked several behavior-based questions.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a disagreement and how you facilitated alignment among the involved parties?
Analyst
First I had a quick chat with the recruiter, super nice. They told me right away they wanted me to interview with the hiring manager. The call was mostly about the company and benefits. The hiring manager interview also included their boss. It was about an hour long, and they asked about my experience, my working style, and if I was a culture fit.
- What are you passionate about and how does it relate to your work style?
Assembly Line Worker
I sent in my application on a Friday and heard back for an interview on Tuesday. By Thursday, I had my physical, a drug test, and ordered my uniform. My first day is Monday. It was super fast and easy, and everyone was really nice. The interview started with a quick chat with HR about the job and what they expect, then I talked with two managers about my past work experience. It felt very relaxed and was a great experience all around!
- Can you tell me about your experience using hand and power tools?
- What's your opinion on how many shifts are okay to miss in a year?
- Do you prefer working as part of a team or independently?
Mechanical Design Engineer
After applying, I got a call for a phone interview about 2 weeks later. Then, about 2-3 weeks after that, I had an in-person interview. I talked with 4 engineers who were all really nice. The interview felt pretty laid-back and conversational. It went for about an hour, and each interviewer asked me around 4-5 questions. Most of the questions were pretty standard, though a couple were tough.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
- What makes you the best candidate for this role?
