First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kendo.
Senior Manager
The hiring process was straightforward initially, with a recruiter call and a hiring manager interview. Things seemed promising after that. However, the situation deteriorated quickly. Just an hour before a scheduled panel interview where I was supposed to present a creative content/case study for the role, the recruiter contacted me with a bait-and-switch regarding the salary. The new proposed salary was $40,000 less than initially discussed. When I stated I would not proceed, the recruiter inquired about my current salary (which is illegal) and then offered to match it, but at $20,000 more than the new offer and $20,000 less than the original range. Big red flags everywhere. I advise avoiding this company, especially given their disregard for California state laws.
- Can you share your current salary?
Manager
The interview had 2 stages on separate dates. First, there were questions, then a makeup look was assigned, and I had 15 minutes to change it into a fashion look.
- How would you motivate your team if they weren’t hitting targets?
Manager
The recruiters and support staff I interacted with were pleasant. However, during the in-person interviews, two individuals created a negative impression. One had a disrespectful and condescending tone, possibly the executive mentioned in other reviews. The other seemed very unhappy and irritated, even criticizing the brand they work for, which was quite surprising. This experience led me to believe that employees might be unhappy and that the negative online reviews are likely accurate. Although I suspected Kendo might offer a competitive package, I decided to accept another company's offer without waiting, as I didn't have a positive outlook on this opportunity.
- Were there any difficult interview questions?
