Association Manager
The interview process was fast. I had a phone screen and then a 2-person interview, and then they sent an offer. I asked for telework and $5K more, expecting maybe $2500 more. They called back to ask why I wanted to telework, which we already talked about on the phone screen. I want to move to the suburbs to save money and avoid the commute, parking, and lunch costs, especially since I'm hybrid now and the office days seem unnecessary. People I interviewed with live in different cities, and some people in meetings are already on Zoom. They said no telework, and I said that's fine, I'm used to hybrid. Then they said no more money due to budget, even though my request was within the posted range. I figured they'd at least meet halfway. The offer was the same salary I made in 2017. When they said their offer was final, I was visibly disappointed. They said they'd email a summary. The email rescinded the offer, stating I wasn't 'excited.' I was excited about the job, just not the negotiation and their unwillingness to budge, even a little, considering parking alone would cost me $2K a year. I never got formal benefits info, so I assumed negotiations were possible. They rescinded the offer saying I wasn't excited.

HR role
So the interview kicked off with a one-way recorded interview. Then I had meetings with multiple team members and some leaders. I had to chase them for updates after each interview because I'd wait for weeks without hearing anything. After interview number 4 or 5, I never got a response back. It was pretty frustrating considering all the hours I put into prep and the actual interviews. The least they could have done is reject me instead of leaving me hanging for months. My last interview was in July, and it's now October. I'm not going to follow up for an update again. I know my value, and thankfully I'm still employed at my current job. But I can only imagine how someone looking for a job would feel. This is a big red flag for the company. I saw a lot of negative reviews before interviewing, and leadership told me they weren't true and were from past employees who got fired. But I experienced similar issues to what I read about. Overall, the people were really nice. But, this was the most disorganized interview process I've ever been through, and I hope this feedback helps someone or the company improve.
- What made you want to work at Kellen?
Account Executive
Got a call a few days after applying. Then had a phone screen, followed by an interview with the department director. The final interview was with both the department director and VP. The interview process was fantastic and made me want the job even more. Each interview felt like a natural conversation. The whole thing, from the first call to the offer, took about two weeks. Even though the job posting's max pay was $20k less than my current salary, they offered me $10k above that maximum, which really showed me they valued my experience.
- Can you describe your background and explain how it aligns with the requirements of this role?
- What is your motivation for wanting to join Kellen?
- What draws you to working with associations?
Education Administrator
I was offered a job but declined it due to some red flags. The process involved two phone interviews and one in-person meeting. The recruiter mentioned that the hiring manager, who I would be reporting to, was quite direct. During our conversations, the manager frequently stated that finding a suitable candidate had been difficult and she was now prepared to hire someone she could train (meaning me). In the team interview, she pointed out a team member and shared how there was hesitation in converting that person from a temp to a permanent role. The atmosphere in the room felt tense and awkward. She had been in leadership for many years; no one else in the room had been there for more than two years.
- What would you do if you were assigned a task for which you had no prior experience?
