First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at KBD Edge.
Sales Associate
It was a bit unusual. First, I had a Zoom call over the phone. Then, they invited me in to sit in on one of their daily meetings. I realized pretty quickly that this wasn't the place for me when one of the managers came in playing a walk-up song to try and get everyone pumped up – it was Lil Baby. The pay isn't great and the benefits are really bad. It's not a fantastic opportunity, but it might be okay if you're interested in trying sales. The people were nice, it just wasn't the right fit for me.
- What are your career aspirations for this role?
Sales Manager
It went pretty well, though I wish it was more transparent. There were three interviews in total. The first was just a quick call to gauge my interest. The next two were more serious, involving discussions with a manager more familiar with the role. They also offered a shadowing opportunity for a day, which culminated in a final interview. It's a bit disappointing that a college education isn't really required for this job, as it primarily involves basic phone sales and is heavily commission-based.
- Tell me about a challenging situation in your life and how you overcame it.
Account Executive
I was really impressed when I interviewed here. The leadership team gave me time to ask a lot of questions and challenged my answers. Not that they thought I was wrong, but I think they liked hearing the logic behind my responses to their questions. I got to interview with a few different people here and all of them seemed to really like working there. There's a lot of opportunity in management, if that's what your going for, and they pretty much walk you through training.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Account Executive
I applied online and then got a call. After that, I had a full-day, in-person interview that included shadowing. The in-person part involved an interview, shadowing the team, and answering questions about the company's 'four pillars,' which I thought was strange. During the shadowing, I saw how employees persuade Duke Energy customers to switch to green energy by telling them their bills won't increase. The shadowing itself seemed like a good job because the staff were young and friendly, but online research revealed many unhappy customers who found their bills went up significantly. I got the job offer the same day as the interview and was asked to sign paperwork the next week, even though I wouldn't start for three months. I think this was because I mentioned waiting for other offers, which they seemed pushy about, leading me to decline the job.
- Can you explain the distinction between internal and external marketing, and provide examples of each?
