Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Katten.
Summer Associate
It was a pretty chill chat, not much about Katten specifically, just a quick 20-min screener. They mostly asked general stuff about why I'm into law, what I've done before, and my college background. Just remember to prep one question to ask them.
- What makes you want to study law?
Summer Associate
The interview process started with a 1:1 on-campus interview with a hiring committee partner, which was pretty basic, asking about my resume and experience. After that, I had a callback where I met with six different people in separate 1:1 meetings, each lasting about 30 minutes, so around 3 hours total. I met with both partners and associates. The interviews mainly focused on why I was interested in Katten, my skills, and my preferred practice groups. They also asked about my ideal work environment and whether I was serious about practicing in Chicago.
- In 10 years, what career achievements are you hoping for?
Associate
Met with the main partners in a group setting, then had a second interview with other attorneys in the office. I brought a writing sample, which they were pleased to see, though they didn't specifically ask for it.
- What aspects of your current job do you find unsatisfactory?
- Could you share your current salary details?
