I had a virtual interview with a manager and he passed me to the next round. Then I had to 2 more virtual interviews in the final round. The first interview was with 3 people. The second one was with the VP of Engineering. I thought it was interesting that I did not get invited to their office for the final round since it was a hybrid role and you would think they would want me to see their office since it is not a remote job. The team seemed like a nice group of people who you would want to work with.

Behavioral Technical

The interview process started with a 30-minute video call with a recruiter. This was described as an 'anti-sell' where they were upfront about recent layoffs, low morale, and stagnating growth, but mentioned a 're-birth' period was starting. When asked about this 're-birth', I was directed to ask the COO. The salary range was stated as a maximum of $130-140K with no equity or bonus, which the recruiter seemed aware was low. Next, I had a 45-minute video interview with the COO. She joined late, skipped pleasantries, and immediately began asking questions with no room for discussion. At the end, there were only two questions allowed. I inquired about innovation efforts, but she stated she couldn't share details without an NDA. When asked about her recent focus between cost-cutting and revenue growth, she broadly said 'both'. My attempt to understand her daily activities and how this role supports the exec team by increasing leverage was met with a vague response: 'It really depends, I spend my days on a lot of different things'. It was evident both the recruiter and COO were in a difficult situation.

I got referred by someone I knew. A day later, I got a call for a phone interview. It went well, so they invited me to their headquarters for an in-person interview with another Client Director. That also went well, and I was asked back for a longer onsite interview, about 5 hours. When I got there, there were two other candidates. They provided lunch and we met some regional managers and other Client Directors. The office looked really impressive. They gave me a tour and talked up the company. Then we went to the CEO's office, and even though he wasn't there, they showed me his scooter and gave me a tour of his office, saying his door is 'always open.' After that, we did a case study/exercise. I was alone with a computer and had to create a growth strategy for a fictional Austin shoe company losing market share. I had 30 minutes and could ask some questions. I had to present my strategy to the regional managers, who acted like investors and were pretty critical. It felt like they were trying to catch me out to see how I'd react. Honestly, the presentation didn't go great because one of the managers seemed dismissive. They didn't like my reaction to their feedback, and I didn't get the job. Apparently, someone else interviewed for the same role a month later, and I gave them some pointers on the process. That person also didn't get the job. I think their recruiting process for this role is flawed, and they're looking for a unicorn. They also mentioned a Wonderlic test.

I applied online and got an email from the hiring manager about a week and a half later. We had a 30-minute 1:1 phone call where he was really professional and nice, being upfront about the role. It felt like he was trying to talk me out of it, but it made me want the job more. A week later, I had another interview with him, which was more in-depth and had tougher questions. He was still nice and professional, but I wouldn't recommend giving general answers. It felt like an interrogation with follow-up questions about my reasoning. Overall, it was a positive experience. Then I went to their offices for a team interview. The offices were nice with a cool theme, and the team was cool, asking easier questions than the phone calls. I also had to take a Wonderlic test, which felt intimidating, sitting alone and answering as many questions as possible in 10 minutes. A few days later, the hiring manager called with disappointing news that they were moving forward with another candidate. I appreciated the call, as most companies don't even email. He even gave me helpful tips for future applications, which was awesome. I've since accepted another offer but am still interested in Kasasa because it seems like a cool company with good people.
