First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at KARL STORZ.
Intern
It was pretty brief, mostly just questions about my resume and how I approach problems. It felt like a behavioral interview, but honestly, they probably just wanted to see how my experiences related to the job. It was tough though because the role details were super vague.
- Tell me more about how you solved problems for project X.
- Describe your problem-solving process for project X.
Masterand
A few technical questions about studies and the Bachelor's thesis. Otherwise, about interest in the company and about myself. Generally, a rather relaxed atmosphere and getting to know each other on an equal footing. I accepted the offer. The contract arrived within a few days.
- What topics were covered in your studies and your Bachelor's thesis?
Biocompatibility Specialist
The process was quick. Although the job posting was in German and I only speak English, my German CV and PhD title got me invited to two interview rounds. The team and HR were very professional. During the second interview, HR asked many challenging behavioral questions, while the two directors had few questions for me. I felt good after the first interview but nervous after the second.
- What types of colleagues do you find difficult to work with?
- Can you describe your biggest challenges and provide examples?
- Have you experienced conflicts with colleagues, and if so, how did you handle them?
Clinical Data Scientist
The interview process had 2 stages. The first stage was with the hiring manager about project experience and domain knowledge. The second stage involved talking with the team and included behavior questions. After that, I got a call saying they decided to offer me the job, with 4 days to consider. I replied that I accept the offer. Then, after one day, they said, 'unfortunately, we’ve decided finally for another candidate who meets our needs from a technical point of view better. I am very sorry for these news on such a short notice. This has nothing to do with you as a person and I hope that we can stay in touch.' It felt unprofessional and like a red flag for the company culture.
- How would you handle conflict?
