First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kaiser Permanente.
Pharmacist
This was a group interview with 9 candidates and 4 district managers plus the head of HR as interviewers. We were all nervous at first, but I tried to ease the tension by introducing myself to the other interviewees and chatting with them beforehand. The interview had four parts. First, we had to pair up and describe our partner's role as a Pharmacist and what makes a good patient advocate. Second, we did a KP Facts Jeopardy game, which was fun because the HR lady was really funny and made us feel comfortable. She asked questions from a packet she'd emailed us. Third, we did role-playing scenarios as a Tech and a Pharmacist, dealing with a rude tech who counseled patients inappropriately and another scenario where a tech wouldn't follow instructions during a long customer line. The last part involved splitting the group up.

I applied online for a few jobs over about 6 months, not really trying hard. Once I hit 2 years of experience, they contacted me within a couple weeks. My first interview was at one location, and I didn't get it because I interviewed badly, but surprisingly, they still shared my info with other managers. I scheduled a second interview with managers from other locations and was more ready this time. They asked the same questions and said they'd let me know by the next Friday. They called the day after and offered me the job at the location I preferred. The whole experience was nice and professional.
- Can you give me some examples of how you deal with upset customers?
- Tell me about a situation where a coworker wasn't pulling their weight. What did you do?
- Have you ever had a disagreement with a coworker about differences in culture or religion? Please provide a specific example of how you handled it.
Pharmacy Technician
I first got a call to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview asked about my work history, why I chose Kaiser, and how I could benefit the company, which felt like typical in-person questions. After that, they scheduled an in-person interview. The phone interviewer was nice and easy to talk to. The in-person interview started with me waiting in the waiting room, watching the outpatient pharmacy with patients around. About 20 minutes after the scheduled time, someone from the pharmacy staff came and asked me to follow them inside. It was strange. The interview itself was tense and dry, like they were looking for reasons not to hire me, which was different from what I'm used to. There was no friendly interaction at all. I decided right then I didn't want to work there because they seem to want 'work horses' instead of employees.
- What did you see while you were waiting in the waiting room?
