The process was way too long, but mostly fine until the last round. The interviewer clearly didn't want to be there. I had to do a stock pitch with a presentation and financial model, which was fine even though the firm doesn't invest in public companies and the whole exercise seemed a bit random. The interviewer had a hard stop that cut our time in half, so I couldn't even get through my presentation. They also asked random questions not related to the case study. It left a bad impression given the firm's focus on culture.

It started with a recruiter call, a quick check on aptitude and Excel skills. Then I talked to the head of diligence about the role and my interests, followed by a modeling exercise. Next, I interviewed with two K1 team members to present the model and give an investment recommendation. The process finished with an in-office interview with most of the K1 team to check out the culture before deciding on the offer.

Behavioral Technical Case

I applied to K1 through my university's career center. A recruiter named Jordan first had me do some online tests. After about a week, she contacted me again to schedule a phone interview. Following that call, I had another phone interview with the vice president, which led to an invitation for an in-person interview at the office. During the in-person stage, I met with several current analysts in 2-on-1 sessions and also a partner to gauge company culture and team fit. These meetings focused mainly on my resume and past experiences, though some technical questions were included. A few days after the in-person interviews, I was asked back to meet with the vice president and the partner I'd met earlier. This was a brief meeting where I was tasked with preparing a short stock pitch to present over the phone in a week. After delivering the stock pitch, I was called into the office again and received an offer. It was a lengthy process, but it shows K1's dedication to finding the right fit. It also benefits the candidate by allowing them to meet potential colleagues and get a feel for the work environment.
