First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at K1 Investment Management.
Business Development
It was a good interview, they asked about my past experiences and it was conversational. The company seemed like a good place to work, and the interview was very straightforward. I'd suggest having a deal ready to ask them about. Their process involves going through different teams to process a deal, and it didn't seem arbitrary, unlike some other reviews suggested.
- Can you describe your typical daily responsibilities in your previous role?
- What deal would you prepare to discuss with us?
Business Development Analyst
The interview process was rough. The first round had some really strange questions, super personal and possibly illegal, asking about parents' backgrounds, which seemed irrelevant to the firm. The second interview with a VP was conducted while he was driving over CarPlay. The salary offered was incredibly low. When I expressed interest in switching from sourcing to diligence, I was rejected about an hour after the interview. Honestly, don't bother applying; the online reviews are accurate and not exaggerated.
- What is it about your university that you love?
- Do you have any brothers or sisters?
- Could you describe yourself in high school?
Business Development Analyst
So before I went to their El Segundo office for this 'superday' style in-person interviews, there was a cognitive exam, an HR phone screening, and then phone interviews with a Senior Associate and a Partner from the BD team. The interviews in the office were with 4-5 other candidates and it was kind of chaotic, like nobody knew the schedule or where to go. Most of my interviews actually happened outside on benches in the courtyard because they said they were growing so fast they didn't have office space. Everyone I talked to was super knowledgeable and hyped up the firm's performance and how important the BD Analyst role is. They made it sound really prestigious. After getting an offer, it was tough to say no because of how passionate and positive the interviewers were. But the base pay was way lower than I thought and they wouldn't tell me how the performance-based compensation worked. Plus, a mandatory three-month training before any benefits or 401k. Once I started, I realized this role wasn't for me. It's just cold-calling and data entry, and the deal flow wasn't great, which made the low base pay a deal breaker.
- Tell me about your background and experience.
- What motivated you to apply for this position and our company?
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a difficulty and how you managed to resolve it?
