Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at K1 Investment Management.
Associate
It was 14 interviews and they were all the same and there was no correlation or communication between what others spoke about. It was a waste of time but it's a good place to get into PE if you aren’t from a finance background.
- Why is software beneficial for investors?
Associate
I applied for the Associate position online and was contacted by K1's VP the next day via email from the USC career development center. My interview process involved two interviews: one with an Associate and then a VP. The entire thing took less than an hour and was pretty casual, with the VP even in jeans. Both interviews started with "describe yourself." The Associate asked me about my resume and private equity knowledge, which felt like a screening to gauge my personality, candidacy, and basic understanding of their work. The VP's interview also covered my resume, my top 5 qualities, my knowledge of private equity, and my reasons for choosing K1. I didn't get a chance to ask about the offer timeline. Even after sending a thank you note and saying I was very interested, I heard nothing back from K1.
- Would you say you are competitive?
Associate
I found out about K1 from a friend. In the first interview, I met the hiring manager and some junior team members. It was about 2 hours. Then I had another round which took longer, and I talked to all the partners.
- Can you explain your interest in this industry?
- What specifically about K1 appeals to you?
- Could you go over your resume with me?
