Sales Consultant
I had a phone interview first, then a 20-minute in-person chat with the sales manager at their office. We talked a lot about my experience and what I expected, the professional vibe, and making sure communication was clear. They offered me the job right away.

Outside Sales
The initial interview felt pretty realistic. The manager was upfront and professional, explaining that all the salespeople hired last December were no longer with the company. This was the first red flag for me. Another concern was that I'd have to cover all my own expenses. He also mentioned I'd be traveling throughout Oregon and Washington, covering a specific area at a time. While that's not a huge deal, the expectation was a 6-day work week with potentially long hours to achieve the high earnings of their top performers. I was hoping for a territory closer to home. They estimated I'd drive about 40,000 miles annually, with costs around $10,000 per year, but he said this is offset by the starting salary of $60,000+ for their salespeople. After getting home, I checked the company on Glassdoor and found some negative comments that worried me. I usually consider these, as people are often more vocal about bad experiences. However, I felt too concerned to continue. I've ignored negative feedback from past employees before and regretted it.
- Can you tell me about your background?
Sales Representative
I was emailed by someone interested in my resume and we set up an online interview for 10 a.m. When I joined the online meeting, I was put in a queue with 4 other candidates. It looked like we were going to watch some kind of informational video. I waited for over 15 minutes, but while doing so, I looked up their reviews and they were not good. So, I removed myself from the call and gave them my feedback. Everyone's time is valuable, and if it was going to be a group meeting, they should have said so upfront. If I was going to possibly wait for 15-20 minutes for a scheduled 30-minute interview, they should have let me know. Lesson learned: always research a company before putting effort into applying for a position.

Marketing Director
The hiring manager called me to go over my resume. Then I came in for another interview before they made me an offer. After that, I met with the assistant manager to chat. They showed me the sales kit, presentation stuff and info about the company. About a week later I flew out to California for a week of training. I stayed in a motel room by myself which was fine. The best part was it was right next to a Japanese restaurant with amazing food.
- What makes you think you'd be a good fit for this company?
- Would working longer hours be an issue for you?
- Was working longer hours a problem for you?
