The interview process kicked off with a 30-minute recruiter phone screening. This was followed by a 1-hour interview with the engineering manager where we discussed my past experience and skills. Next, there was a 1-hour coding assessment on CodeSignal with an engineer, which started with a LeetCode easy problem and then progressively added more complex requirements. It was still a pretty easy coding challenge. The final stage involved 4 hours of panel interviews spread over two days. These included pair programming on a coding problem, data infrastructure questions, and a "Q&A" presentation about a past project I worked on. After a week of studying and preparation, they cancelled the entire thing the morning of the interview because they had filled the position.

Behavioral Coding

The interview process has three to four stages. First, there's an initial 30-minute Zoom call with a recruiter from JWP. Then, a 60-minute call with the Head of Engineering or the team you'd be joining. Finally, a 60-minute technical interview with two engineers where you'll do some coding while they watch, which was a disappointing part of the process as it didn't prove much.

The interview process was quite long. First, there was an HR Phone Screen, followed by a Hacker rank assessment. Then, a Team Lead Phone Screen, and after that, onsite interviews, which consisted of 5 separate interviews. Finally, there was a Phone screen with the CEO. When you're onsite, you meet different people from different teams who evaluate you on different things. You'll talk to both engineers and product managers, and sometimes even SVP/C-level managers, so it's a good idea to prepare for behavioral questions as well as data structures and algorithms.

  • Tell me about data structures and algorithms.
  • Describe your experience with systems design.
  • Can you demonstrate your core software engineering skills?

Design this game: The game is a race over a distance of S steps involving N racers. Racers take it in turns to advance with the roll of one 6 sided die D. The winner is determined by the first racer to cross the line (having moved a total of S steps or more) Determine the average number of turns (for the winner) necessary to win the race where D = 1 x 6 S = 100, and N = 4 ANSWER: ~ 26.4
