First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JW Marriott.
Engineer
It was a 3-step interview process. Started with HR, then the department head, and finally the GM. It wasn't super hard but scheduling was a bit rushed. It can be intimidating because you'll be with 3 other people, which is normal in Korea. You might have more or less people competing for the same role. It's good to be ready.
- Tell me about your strengths and weaknesses.
- Can you share your experience in customer service?
- What were some learning experiences from your previous job?
Finance Intern
It was an online interview, an Excel test, and a final interview with the manager. Nothing too difficult, great for someone looking for their first job. The questions were mostly about you and how you handle things. Then with the manager, it was an expectation-alignment interview along with the analyst.
- Are you more of a creative person or a process-oriented person?
Guest Experience Expert
I had an informal interview with the front office manager at the hotel restaurant. We chatted about my background and the hotel's vibe and culture. The hiring manager seemed really keen, even asking about my availability to start, which led me to believe I had secured the position. However, HR did not extend an offer, which was quite a letdown. It's a shame, and I wish hiring managers wouldn't give those kinds of hints before HR has had a chance to review things.
- What's your approach when handling guests with exceptionally high or perhaps unreasonable expectations?
Pool Attendant
The interview started with talking about my background, and then it moved on to behavior-based questions or ones about how I'd handle things on the job. They asked things like, 'What would you do in x situation with a guest?' or 'How would you approach x complaint/dilemma/scheduling conflict etc.?' There were also some questions about the Marriott brand itself, and if I knew about the different levels within Marriott. For example, JW Marriott is one of Marriott's luxury brands.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with an unhappy customer and how you resolved their issues.
- What would you do in a given situation involving a guest?
- How would you handle a specific complaint, problem, or scheduling issue?
