I applied to Just Eat because I wanted to work with Go, even though I heard from someone that teams there aren't great for women. I checked out the hiring manager on LinkedIn and thought we'd get along. The interview seemed okay. I was told I seemed confused about parallelism and concurrency, but they'd still consider me. Then they just asked me for feedback on the process, which was weird. About the confusion, when asked about Go's concurrency, I mentioned fixing race conditions and getting tests that used channels to work with t.Parallel(). I figured a Go person would know what that means, but maybe I should've explained that t.Parallel() makes tests run concurrently depending on resources. They seem to focus a lot on keywords in CVs, so if you don't use the exact terms, they might miss your experience.

The hiring process was pretty quick, usually wrapping up in about 1 to 2 weeks. It kicked off with submitting an online application. After that, I had a short call with a recruiter. The recruiter was really helpful and actually made things move faster for me since I was interviewing elsewhere at the time. Then, I went through a couple more interviews that focused on cultural fit and technical skills.

The interview process spanned 3 weeks and included 3 main stages after the initial recruiter call. Although they were looking for a Tech Lead, I expressed interest in a Senior Engineer role. The first stage was a 45-minute interview focusing on cultural fit and a review of my CV. This was followed by a 45-minute session where we reviewed a poorly written codebase using VS Code Live Share. The final stage was a 2-hour interview, split into a 1-hour system design portion and a 1-hour competencies/behavioral portion. The design part involved discussing my past experience and presenting a solution to a challenge.
