Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

It kicked off with an email screening, then I had 3 separate video calls with HR, Management, and the CEO. They scheduled the next step as soon as I was free after each stage. I'm calling this 'difficult' because I really had to dig deep to give them the most genuine answers. Some questions, especially from the CEO, felt like they were tapping into some really deep-seated parts of my mind. It wasn't necessarily bad, though; I felt like I grew a bit. I was actively job hunting, so I'd gotten pretty good at pulling answers out of thin air. But I couldn't do that with them because the questions went beyond the usual 'Where do you see yourself?' or strengths/weaknesses. I even had to explain my average day, hour by hour, in a story format. If you're looking for a typical 9-to-5, this isn't it. Jumpcut lives its values, meaning you won't be stuck in a monotonous, cog-in-the-wheel situation. They'd let me set my own schedules, deadlines, and work from anywhere. I thought I did well with the HR/manager interview (despite my cat making a webcam appearance), but then came the final boss battle: the CEO interview. I wanted to get it over with quickly since it was Friday, so I scheduled it for 2 am my time. After some Friday night fun, it was time. I had great conversations with the hiring manager and PM. Honestly, after the first interview with Liz, each subsequent step was exciting, so I didn't mind one more. The three interviewers each had very different personalities and asked about what was important to them and to me. I actually started to enjoy selling myself and explaining why they should invest in me. I'm not saying I'm the absolute best product designer, but I'm good, and it felt like they're looking for someone who wants to grow with them. Overall, it was a fun experience, and I learned a lot about the company. I got an offer 20 minutes after the CEO interview, while I was asleep, but I'm sure it was great.

After an initial assessment of my fit, I was sent a list of questions. Following that, the HR manager called me for a screening. Even though the call felt a bit off-topic, more for engineers and designers, I did my best to answer. Lastly, I had a video call with the CEO, Kong. We had a good chat, but then they changed the job title to Supervising Producer and then stopped responding until I followed up.

Behavioral Presentation

After submitting my application online, I got an email to schedule a 25-minute phone chat. They wanted me to be ready to discuss my proudest accomplishment from my previous role and to explain and defend my design choices over the phone. The interviewer was great because they pointed out when things didn't make sense, which helped me re-explain my design decisions. It was refreshing and respectful. They also told me what they were looking for in a candidate. At the end, I got to ask questions about the company and received honest feedback about my interview and the next steps, which would be a 7-day paid design challenge if the phone call went well. Overall, it was a great experience; I appreciated the helpfulness, transparency, and kindness of everyone involved. Even though I didn't get through, I have a lot of respect for the Jumpcut team.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The CEO emailed me two days after applying, on a Monday after I applied on Friday. I had a skype interview with the CEO, which was really cool that he took time for intern interviews. They invited me to their office for an in person project and interview. I'm based in New York so I didn't think I could make it, but they said they would reimburse all expenses. I was shocked they'd fly an intern in but gladly accepted. They were flexible with my schedule. I got to pick the hotel and flights. The in-person interview involved meeting the VP of Content (head of the department), doing a video editing project where I showed my editing skills and ability to take feedback, and a lighting assignment. It ended with another chat with the CEO. I didn't meet anyone else as not many people were in the office that day. I got reimbursed within a week. The process was awesome and I admired the personal effort they put in.
