Social Media Manager
I had an initial HR/recruiter screening that went well. After that, I was given a take-home assessment. While I'm not a big fan of unpaid projects, I understand they can be part of the process. I did the assessment and was later rejected, which is fine because their feedback was fair. My issue is that I never got to meet the hiring team to discuss the role's needs or talk about the work I did on the project. These kinds of assessments should be for final candidates, not early on. It feels exploitative to have candidates spend hours on ideas before meeting the hiring team.
- Present several ideas on how to improve our social strategy for Nectar and Jubilee.
Digital Growth Strategist
The interview process was disorganized and left much to be desired. It began smoothly with HR, but communication and professionalism declined significantly after that. HR indicated that I’d move on to the assessment stage, describing it as a simple project that wouldn’t amount to unpaid labor. However, the assignment required a full analysis of Jubilee and Nectar's Instagram accounts, including identifying strengths and weaknesses, creating a content calendar, and providing ideas with KPIs. Despite completing the project, I received no follow-up. They then reposted the Social Media Manager and Growth Marketing roles with nearly identical descriptions. I also had a bait and switch with the pay structure, as it is listed without the pay band and I wasn't told the salary range until the interview.
- Can you provide a detailed analysis of Jubilee and Nectar's Instagram accounts, evaluating what is working well and what isn't?
- Could you also create a content calendar with recommendations for improvement for these accounts?
- Additionally, please suggest new content ideas with associated KPIs.
Growth Marketing Manager
I applied online and then had a brief video chat with the recruiter. After about a week, she offered the next step: a take-home assignment. I had some red flags here. First, it seemed strange to get an assignment before meeting the hiring manager, as assignments usually come later. Second, the assignment title was incorrect for the role I applied for, and the recruiter claimed they were the same position despite both being listed online. Third, the assignment required a week's worth of content ideas and KPIs, which felt too much like free work. Despite my reservations, I completed it because it didn't seem too time-consuming. I received a rejection later that week, with feedback outside the scope of the assignment, which confirmed my suspicion that they were looking for free labor rather than hiring.
- Can you create a sample social media content calendar for a week, including specific KPI targets?
Community Engagement Manager
I only made it to the second round of interviews. They initially said I would continue, but then they responded back saying I will not. I wish there had been more fluid communication. The process consisted of virtual interviews; the first was with a recruiter and the second was supposed to be with the CEO.
- What would you bring to the company?
