First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Journeys.
Store Manager
You'll first meet with the Store Manager, and then the District Manager. The initial meeting covers basic questions, while the second one is more in-depth. They really want you to ask them questions and show you know a bit about the company. Hitting sales targets daily/weekly is super important for moving up, so being goal-driven is key. You gotta be dressed sharp, outgoing, and into fashion (not necessarily shoes).
- What makes you want to be a part of the Journey's team?
Store Manager
The first interview was with the store manager for the position I was applying for. The second interview was with the district manager. The first interview went well, with typical questions about my skills, management abilities, and personal characteristics. The second interview was similar, but the DM had a hostile tone, making me feel like I was wasting their time, so it didn't last as long as the first. This, along with the misleading job posting, really put me off the company. I never heard back after meeting the DM. The job posting was misleading because you're actually applying for a co-manager position, not a store manager. It requires working 45+ hours a week and 6 days a week during busy times like holidays, so forget about work/life balance. Pay is base plus commission, but they wouldn't give an estimate when asked.
- How would you handle customer interactions?
Assistant Store Manager
I was called to set up an interview and I asked what the salary would be. The person refused to give me an answer, kept saying it varied by location and store sales. I asked for a ballpark amount and they still would not answer. I asked how I would know what I would be making and they said the district manager determines pay and I would find out if I was offered a position. I have never heard of a company not giving someone even an average range of pay. This makes me very suspicious of the company.
- What is the salary?
