First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Joby Aviation.
Engineer
recruiter reached out about a role. 1st phone screen was good, then moved on to an engineer interview. they asked questions not related to the job description, I did my best and got rejected. later saw on the career site that the questions matched a different role on the same team, which didn't fit my background, but I met all the qualifications for the original role I was contacted for.
- How would you approach a project related question?
Engineer
The interview process had 4 stages. I met with the recruiter, some future coworkers, my direct manager, and a senior leader. It was a quick process and the recruiter kept me updated. You should know your resume inside and out and be ready for technical questions related to the job description. I got an offer but turned it down for personal reasons. The team was great to talk to and helpful.
- Can you walk me through your resume?
Engineer
The interview process involved 4 stages in total. The first 3 were conducted via Zoom, and the final stage was an in-person interview with a panel of 5 people, mostly mid-level managers. There were significant delays, sometimes weeks, with no communication from recruiters between interviews. A strong emphasis was placed on expressing a desire to work at Joby, and answers that didn't convey extreme enthusiasm for the company were often met with rephrased versions of the same question. Be prepared for a surprisingly low offer or a rejection if your salary expectations are too high.
- If you had offers from Joby and other companies, what would influence your decision?
- Will the salary be a factor in choosing between Joby and other job offers?
