Software Engineer
I interviewed for the Platform team. The interview process was pretty quick. It started with a 30-minute call with the recruiter, then a 30-minute technical phone screen. After that, I had an in-person interview that took about half a day. Everyone I met was really nice and professional. The hiring manager kicked things off by talking about JobCase's business, how it's growing, and their extensive use of design-by-contract. Then we immediately went into a problem-solving question. Unfortunately, they weren't impressed with my answer to the problem-solving question. It wasn't super difficult, but I guess I was a bit rusty with interviewing and being too careful, looking for a trick that wasn't there. They told me I didn't get the job politely and directly before I left the office.
- Solve a design problem with object-oriented principles.
- Given an object-oriented design problem, present your approach and solution to the panel.
- Discuss your approach and solution to the OO design problem.
Software Engineer
The process was quick. First, a technical screen, and then an onsite interview. HR was efficient and responsive with updates. The technical team was alright, though not particularly engaging. They focused on a single question during the onsite.
- Technical phone screen with Java-focused questions
- Onsite interview involving a database design problem and Java coding
Software Engineer
This was the weirdest interview I've ever been through. I talked to the recruiter, hiring manager, and four other team members over two weeks, about five hours total. A lot of the conversations were odd because after I'd answer something, the interviewer would just go on and on about the company, the team, and the products for like ten minutes, without letting me say anything. It felt like they were trying to sell me on the job, but then I got rejected without even doing a technical assessment. The interviews felt like they were in the wrong order, repeated stuff, and were just handled poorly. It was surprising they'd spend so much time on it before moving on.
- Can you describe your experience working in cross-functional capacities?
- What are your thoughts on whether Rails is becoming obsolete?
