Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Job&Talent.
Software Engineer
The interview process started off really great. HR did a fantastic job; everything was structured, organized, and clearly process-oriented. The job and project details were appealing and truly caught my attention. Throughout the interviews, I met with experienced and constructive interviewers, which I liked. I got through the behavioral interview and the coding challenge parts, but unfortunately, I was rejected after the system design interview. It felt like there might have been at least one more stage to go. After each round, they asked me for feedback, and they gave me some brief feedback in return. I was also told I could get more detailed feedback for the last stage, but I never ended up receiving it. During the system design interview, I felt there was some confusion on both sides. The interviewers seemed to have limited experience with conducting system design interviews, and the question felt quite new or not fully standardized. Based on my experience with system design interviews as both a candidate and interviewer, I noticed some issues with how the session was structured. While I admit my performance might not have been perfect, there were also difficulties during the requirements gathering. Several functional and non-functional aspects were left unclear or unanswered, like the expected QPS, the trade-offs between consistency and availability, decisions about environment isolation (which were left to the candidate to define), and the types of rules expected to be supported. So, even though the company and the people made a good impression, the technical design stage really needs to be reviewed and improved.
- Can you design a company-wide feature flag system?
Software Engineer
So basically, after finishing all the rounds, like even the VP chat, they just ghosted me. Didn't even send a peep. I tried hitting up the hiring manager, but nothing. The process was: HR chat, then a tech chat with the devs, and finally, an interview with the VP.
- What prompted your departure from your last role?
- Can you outline the architecture for a project you worked on?
Senior Software Engineer
JT head hunter reached out about the position, giving details on salary, project info, and setting up a call the same day. The whole process took two weeks. It started with an HR Interview, followed by a 60-minute Technical Interview Session with no coding tests. I had good conversations with two senior devs/architects from the team about my technical skills in the required technologies. The session went deep into technology aspects, architecture, devops, and frameworks. Then there was a VP Interview for culture fit and soft skills. I got the pre-job offer four days after the VP interview. It was a very good and direct process.
- How do you make sure Kafka messages are consumed only once?
- How can we ensure the ordering of Kafka message consumption.
