Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JLR.
Manager
The first interview was virtual and a really nice chat with some standard questions about my interest in the role and the company. The second interview had a presentation on a topic I knew beforehand, followed by questions about it. Then, I had to work through some problems and discuss my answers with the interviewers. It also included competency-based questions related to JLR values. Honestly, HR could have prepared me better for the part where I had to solve problems on my own; I even had to ask to borrow a calculator and pen. They could have given me a heads-up on what to expect for those tasks before the interview.
- What makes you want to work for JLR?
- What about this specific role interests you?
- Can you share an example of how you've led a diverse team in the past?
Business Manager
The interview process had clear instructions, no interventions, and good feedback. It went smoothly with a nice team and was very professional. They asked about my experience, for a self-introduction, achievements, IT experience, and my knowledge of the company and past experience. It was an online interview.
- Could you tell me about your background, experience, and achievements, as well as your future plans?
Case Manager
It started with just sending in your application, then a quick phone chat where they hit you with a random competency question and one about selling JLR to the recruiter. If you pass that, you get an invite to an assessment centre. This involves a role play – a fake call from an angry customer – and a written task where you have to email back to a customer who sent in a really unhappy email. Then there's a group task, the main thing is to work together to reach a shared answer, don't take over though, it's about teamwork, not leading. Lastly, a one-on-one interview with questions about your skills and the business.
- What makes you want to work for JLR?
- Can you describe a situation where you initiated change in your previous company?
- How do you structure your workload in a high-pressure setting?
