First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JLG Industries.
Mechanical Engineering Analyst
The first step was an interview with a third-party recruiter, an English test with an AI, and then submitting information. After that, there was an interview with the company's HR via phone call, and finally, an in-person interview with the manager and director at the Indaiatuba location.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Intern
It was good. They started with a recruiter screening, then technical and behavioral questions. After that, there was a case exercise, followed by a team fit discussion, and finally a manager interview. They were looking at my skills, motivation, communication, and learning potential. This part was repeated.
- Can you discuss your relevant experience from past roles?
Rotational Engineer
First I had a quick call with a college recruiter to see if I was interested and to talk about my resume. Then, the hiring manager interviewed me online using WebEx. It was a pretty typical interview with questions about my experience and education, some "tell me about a time" questions, and questions about my knowledge of engineering principles and technology. It wasn't a super hard technical interview. HR was nice and responsive, but I ended up taking another offer because JLG's wasn't as good.
- Describe a situation where you encountered workplace conflict and how you addressed it.
- Can you share your internship experience at XYZ and highlight skills gained that were not taught in your education?
Quality Manager
I had an initial phone screen with a recruiter from JLG in Hagerstown, MD. About two weeks later, I went for an onsite interview. The onsite included a tour of the plant, a chat with HR about benefits, and a panel interview. The panel had the Plant Manager and five other people who asked some basic questions. I tried to make it more of a discussion by asking them about the company's culture and processes. This was my third time interviewing with JLG, and frankly, I'm done with them. Their recruiters are terrible at following up; you have to constantly chase them. After waiting three weeks for a response, I followed up, and they told me they hired an internal candidate. This has happened every time I've interviewed with them. I've had to manage the recruiters myself due to their poor follow-up, and each time, an internal candidate was chosen. I'd advise people to steer clear. I heard at their Shippensburg facility that two product assembly lines are moving to Mexico due to lower costs. They've already closed a powder paint line and are moving in some machine centers, which aren't their core strength. This makes me think the Shippensburg facility, which is assembly-only, might eventually shut down. The pay here is also very low for the workload; people are expected to work seven days a week, coming in very early and staying late. When I discussed benefits, the HR person mentioned that healthcare is changing next year, but they didn't know the company's plans. Lots of uncertainties. JLG seems lazy in their recruitment, and their recruiters act like they have all the power. They push to discuss salary very early, likely because their pay is below market rates. To top it off, they didn't reimburse me for travel expenses, and when I asked, the recruiter seemed dismissive.
- Tell me about how you manage stress.
- What can you tell me about the company culture and your processes?
- What are the benefits like?
