It was a good process, spent a solid 2 hours talking with the lead and engineering managers about all sorts of software engineering topics. They seemed to be just trying to gauge my level, no tricky or unfair questions. It was a long call though, definitely felt tiring after chatting for so long.

The interview process had 2 stages. The first stage involved answering behavioral video questions. The second stage was an assessment centre with about 10 applicants in the final stage. I was not offered the role after waiting three weeks for feedback. The reason given was insufficient knowledge of their tech stack (they wanted C# and I had JS). I understand the feedback, but the long wait for it was tough. The assessment centre had good staff involvement.

I had to do an online coding test in C#. They gave me a development environment that wasn't Visual Studio, and they mentioned they were monitoring everything. The problem was, unlike Visual Studio, this environment didn't let me step through code, use breakpoints, or check variable values in an immediate window during execution. The task was finished when the automated unit tests passed (I could run them, but not see them), and I had an hour to complete it. The actual coding wouldn't have been too hard, but the lack of debugging tools made it take way longer than it would in a normal job. I could have copied the code to my own Visual Studio, but since they were watching, I didn't. I guess they try to filter candidates this way, but making it unnecessarily harder than real work seems like a bad idea.
