Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Jei Learning Center.
Instructor
I applied online and they called me in for an in-person interview at the local office. The interviewer mentioned I had teaching experience, but said I wouldn't be hired because they were only looking for teachers in specific subjects like literary analysis or English Literature. She explained that the only reason this wasn't specified in the online ad was due to cost. Then, she asked if I could teach a subject they didn't offer, even though only one student needed help with it.
- Would you be able to teach Biology courses, given that it's not a subject offered and there's no existing curriculum?
Tutor
It was kinda unorganized. Like, they didn't really confirm the interview properly. The manager hadn't even read my CV before I came in. They had these totally unrealistic ideas about education, like expecting a 20% grade increase from the teacher. And I had to wait around forever. Plus, the owner's English speaking and listening skills weren't great.
- How would you go about boosting a student's grade from a 70% to a 95% within a tight deadline?
- Are you capable of improving a student's grade from 70% to 95% quickly?
- What's your approach to teaching?
Tutor
They asked about my experience, my work schedule, the time I have available, and what salary I was expecting. They also wanted to know how long I would stay at the company and asked for a few references to verify my experience. They explained the process well.
- Could you describe your relevant experience?
- What is your availability for work schedule?
- How much time can you commit?
