Manager
I applied online and then got a call a few days later for an interview with the internal recruiter. The recruiter was late and unprofessional, talking about himself for 20 minutes. He read questions from a paper, many of them repeated, and seemed uninterested. I thought I wouldn't get the job. He called back an hour later for an interview with the area manager, but I declined due to prior plans. Instead, I had an interview the next day with Romford's store manager, where I had to do a SWOT analysis of the store and present it. This interview was much more casual and laid-back. I was offered the job on the spot. Looking back, knowing the company's issues, I regret taking the job.
- What is your understanding of JD?
Assistant Manager
First interview with the store manager, then a second interview with the area manager if I passed the first. Both interviews were about an hour long and took place in coffee shops nearby. The interviews were informal and focused on getting to know me as a person. They asked scenario-based questions like 'tell me a time when', 'how do you', 'what would you do', and 'has there been a time when'. This was the most laid-back interview experience I've had for similar roles, even with the area manager.
- Tell me about your previous managerial experience.
Merchandising Manager
Got referred by a friend because they knew about my retail and visual merch background. The interviewer was nice, easy to chat with, and we just connected. It was pretty quick, around 15-20 mins. The first 10 mins was mostly a get-to-know-you, then we just chatted about my retail experience.
- When you walk into a new store, how would you build a relationship with the manager and their team?
