I'm surprised by the comments on here as my experience has been very routine thus far. I sent in my resume, received an email about a quick call to discuss the company/position (asked only a few questions), then told to fill out a survey following the call.

I got a call from the HR manager who liked my background and thought I was a good fit, especially since I had a referral from an employee and lots of legal contacts. Then, the office manager interviewed me and introduced me to the person I'd be replacing. It went really well, and they asked me to meet the regional operations manager the next day. That interview didn't feel as good; I think they were more focused on my lack of a degree and my professional style (I wore black pants, a jacket, and heels, which is professional) rather than my experience. They mentioned they like employees to pursue further education, don't like office gossip, and expect case managers to dress nicely even though they sit at a desk all day. I didn't hear back for a couple of weeks. When I called, they said they hadn't made a decision yet and I should keep looking. I had another offer, so I took it.

The interview process was long and took months. I was initially told to come in for an in-person interview, but on my way, I was informed that I had misunderstood and it was actually a third phone interview with the same person. I took the blame even though the email indicated an in-person meeting, and she made the error. I didn't want to argue with her. Ultimately, I didn't get the job. She was nice, but the process was too drawn out, and it wasn't fair to have to accept fault for something that wasn't my mistake.
