I applied for an internship at Davis Construction and a recruiter called me back super fast to set up a phone call, which was a great first impression. She was really enthusiastic about my resume, saying she'd never seen an intern with so much experience and that the team would be thrilled. That made me feel really good about moving forward. After that, things got quiet, and I was ghosted for like a month before they reached out again for what they called a final interview with two team members. The interview itself went really well. The team seemed interested, impressed with my background, and excited about what I could do. We had good technical talks about tools and software I knew, and they said they'd teach me others. It felt like a real, collaborative conversation, and I thought the team and role were great. But then, another long silence after the interview. About a month later, I got a short email saying they hired someone internally through a referral. I get hiring referrals, but the lack of updates was a bummer, especially with how excited they seemed at first and the effort I put in. The team seemed cool, but they could really improve their hiring process with faster updates and clearer expectations.

The whole interview process took 3 rounds. First, there was a 15 minute phone screening. The second round was a zoom call. The last round was an in person interview. They were very upfront about everything the whole way through and tried to make it go as smoothly as possible.

I interviewed in November 2023. I got a call, had a quick 10 minute phone interview. Something told me the girl on the phone already liked my resume because she quickly scheduled me for the first round interview. First round was virtual, seeing an executive in the field taking the time to do an interview was a positive feeling. An in-person interview was scheduled 3 hours later for the next week. I met with 2 VPs who were incredibly nice and asked me the basics, then laid out the more challenging ones, but gave me the time to talk without feeling rushed or nervous. I could feel they were trying to genuinely connect with me, not interrogate me. Every person from HR that I talked to were just the friendliest people, extremely polite, very professional. HR kept me updated (even when I switched messaging services and didn't see one their texts for 2 whole weeks) they followed up. They kept in constant communication. Overall, for an onboarding experience it was a solid 11/10. They couldn't have done anything better.

My interview with Davis was a great experience, though it took a while. The people interviewing me for the I.T. job really knew their stuff and took the time to explain what the role involved and what the company vibe was like. The interview had 3 parts. First, a phone chat where the HR person asked me to go over my resume and why I wanted to leave my old job and what I was hoping for at Davis. Then, about a week later, I had my first in-person interview at their main office in Rockville, MD. I met two I.T. managers who talked about how the department works and the company culture, and they really detailed what the job would be like. The next week, I had my second in-person interview at the same place. This time, I met three people from upper management. They talked more about the company culture and values, showing how passionate they are about Davis. They elaborated on earlier points and gave me a good feel for being an employee there. Even though I didn't get the job, it was a really pleasant interview process with nice people. The HR team was on top of things and let me know the position was no longer open, which I appreciated.
