Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at J D Wetherspoon.
Shift Manager
The interviews are usually thorough and fast. It seems a bit difficult to start with, but there is generally a great atmosphere in most pubs. Good company to work for and also has many opportunities for progression and development.
- Tell me why you believe you're the most suitable candidate.
Shift Leader
I applied online and heard back for an interview in about a week. Since it was a transfer, it took a bit longer to get an offer, and I didn't hear anything until my induction.
- Tell me about the importance of the team leader role.
- What makes you want to become a shift leader?
- Can you describe your experience in the kitchen?
Shift Manager
It was pretty straightforward, with questions similar to previous interviews I've had at spoons. They asked a lot about how I'd handle managing a shift, how to locate information, and what my aspirations are within the company. You need to be familiar with the two pager, know the optimal location to run a shift from, and have ideas about what you'd introduce to the pub.
- What promotions are currently active in your pub, and what method would you use to determine their sales volume?
