I had a phone interview with the PMO Director first. Then I came in for an in-person interview where I met with the PMO Director, COO, and a developer. Got the offer a few days after.

I went through three interviews for this role. First was an hour-long phone call with HR about my resume. Then, a 40-minute phone screen with the PMO manager focusing on my project management experience. The final interview was a two-hour in-office session with the PMO manager and other project managers; it got rescheduled twice. This last one rehashed my project management background and included general personality questions. I got the sense they weren't really planning to hire anyone, and some questions felt like they were looking for free advice. None of it was hard; I think I'm more skilled than the manager I spoke with. They knew I had enough consulting experience to manage their PMO but decided to 'continue interviewing other candidates' without giving a clear reason, though they did say to apply for future roles. The PM team seemed cool, but I'd suggest using this as practice. An ex-employee mentioned they don't hesitate to interview people they don't intend to hire.

The whole process was really disorganized. The first interview with HR was short and seemed to go okay, but then I waited a few weeks to hear back even after following up. I was keen to move forward, but the interviews with the actual team revealed a lot of issues. When I asked simple questions about my direct manager and daily tasks, the two managers I spoke with gave completely conflicting responses. They also asked me situational questions, and one interviewer actually said 'we get that communication is important to you so that can’t be a part of your next answer' – like communication isn't core to project management! When I brought up things like a scope workshop for alignment, which is standard for a PMP, she just brushed it off as 'still communication'. They also hinted that work-life balance is a problem, which is a major red flag when they're the ones bringing it up. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't get an offer and won't have to deal with them.
