Talent Manager
Applied through the careers page and then received a call from a coordinator a few days later for a phone screen. The phone screen was with the head of talent and lasted about 15-20 minutes. The interviewer was unprofessional, didn't introduce herself or the company/role, and didn't ask about my resume. She just went straight into behavioral questions and then asked if I had any questions. She said she'd let me know about next steps, but I never heard back.
- Can you describe a situation where a candidate had a negative experience, and detail your actions to address it?
Project Manager
I went through three interviews for this role. First was an hour-long phone call with HR about my resume. Then, a 40-minute phone screen with the PMO manager focusing on my project management experience. The final interview was a two-hour in-office session with the PMO manager and other project managers; it got rescheduled twice. This last one rehashed my project management background and included general personality questions. I got the sense they weren't really planning to hire anyone, and some questions felt like they were looking for free advice. None of it was hard; I think I'm more skilled than the manager I spoke with. They knew I had enough consulting experience to manage their PMO but decided to 'continue interviewing other candidates' without giving a clear reason, though they did say to apply for future roles. The PM team seemed cool, but I'd suggest using this as practice. An ex-employee mentioned they don't hesitate to interview people they don't intend to hire.
- How would you approach building a house?
- How would your best friend describe you in one word?
- What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Manager
The interview process was laborious: an hour phone interview with HR, another hour long phone interview with the hiring manager and a 3 hour in-person interview with various department heads. This seemed understandable. However, iSeatz seems to have a reputation for getting "free work" out of candidates. After all the interviews, they gave a substantial assignment based on their real work needs and asked to create a solution, provide an analysis or make a recommendation. This isn't so uncommon but it's usually a case study or a hypothetical to show that you can do the work. iSeatz asks for more. It's hard to say no but I felt very used. Like I said, I've heard this from developers before and I felt it myself. Candidates beware: it feels like they are fishing for free work.
- I was given an assignment based on your work needs, not a hypothetical to prove my skills. It was a time consuming assignment requiring me to analyze certain products and provide recommendations on how to improve them. It felt very much like you were fishing for free work (or at least an outside opinion of your work) and I've heard this from several other developers throughout the city.
Software Engineer
I interviewed with 4 different teams, with only one of those sessions being a technical interview. They reviewed my resume and past work experiences. They asked a mix of simple questions, and the team was really friendly and nice.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience?
- Do you have any technical questions about JavaScript?
