Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Irving Oil.
Engineer
Usually, there are 3 rounds of interviews to check the experience and skills needed for the job. It's a good experience if your skills and experience are real.
- Can you tell me about your experience with a key skill listed on your resume?
Project Engineer
It was a total of four interviews, starting with HR, then the hiring manager, followed by another meeting with the hiring manager and a Senior Project Engineer, and finally a session with two Senior Managers. Everything was done via video call. The team seemed really great, which was a plus. The only drawback was that the whole process took too long, and I ended up taking another job offer. They asked typical "tell me about a time when..." questions. Overall, the interviews themselves were a positive experience.
- Can you share an instance where you juggled several competing priorities and explain your approach to managing them?
- Tell me about a time you faced a conflict and how you went about resolving it.
Engineering Co-Op
I applied via my university co-op site and got an interview. The interview was a video call. They asked standard questions, like asking me about myself and behavioral questions about my strengths and weaknesses.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What are your aspirations for the next 5 years?
- What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
