So first you gotta do this one page writing sample, then there's an excel skills test. After that, it's round robin interviews with the different sectors across the floor. Best advice, is to be personable, driven and know the markets. Know about the job, have some insightful things about the recent market performance, don't just read the WSJ the morning of the interview, that's obvious.
- Can you recommend a stock for purchase and explain your reasoning?

Be ready for a lengthy interview process, mine spanned 6 hours from 9 AM to 3 PM. They opt for a single, extended interview session rather than multiple shorter ones. You'll meet with a range of individuals, from senior analysts (those with 1-2 years of experience) to directors, and they'll represent various sectors like Financial Services, Tech, and Healthcare. The conversation will cover fundamental topics such as your personal background and your understanding of the company. An in-person Excel test was also administered during the interview. For this role, understanding investor relations is key, as the team provides consulting services in this area. Essentially, they handle the tasks an Investor Relations Officer or CFO might not have the bandwidth for, like closely tracking stock price and volume fluctuations. Keep in mind that compensation for this financial services role is relatively low, comparable to a police officer's salary. This might explain why many employees utilize the company's educational benefits to pursue a CFA designation; presumably, they plan to move to higher-paying positions in buy-side firms after completion.
- Can you elaborate on your knowledge of investor relations?
- What do you know about investor relations?

I started with a quick phone call with a senior analyst. Then, HR got in touch and invited me to an in-person interview in NYC. They offered me a drink and a snack before bringing me to a conference room. Interviewers rotated in and out, which felt very organized, though the day was long, lasting almost 7 hours. I met with about 11 or 12 people, some individually, others in pairs or groups of three. It was a friendly atmosphere; they offered lunch and apologized for the lengthy process. I spoke with a range of people, from new analysts to managing directors. The focus was more on understanding my personality and work style rather than just my technical knowledge. I completed a short, basic writing sample that took about 20 minutes and an easy Excel skills test at home, assuming regular Excel use. Soon after, I received an email about a background check and a request for references. About two to two and a half weeks later, I got a call with an offer and was given plenty of time to decide.
