Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IPG Mediabrands.
Senior Analyst
I first talked to a recruiter, then I met with the hiring team for two rounds. Finally, the recruiter extended an offer which I accepted. The whole process was great and communication was excellent from the recruiter to the manager.
- Could you tell me about your past work experience?
- What specifically interests you about our company?
Analyst
It started with a phone interview, then a really hard Excel test. If I did okay on the test, I got an in person interview. The in person interview had three rounds with three different people. The first person I met was the one from the phone interview, and she said she was having a terrible day and barely slept. So, not a great start. She seemed bored and distracted the whole time and didn't like my answers, even though I thought I was doing well. She also didn't answer my questions and said she had other things to do. It was super weird, I thought the interview would be cut short, but I still met the other two people. Those interviews went really well, and we had great conversations. But since the first interviewer would have been my direct manager, I knew I wasn't getting the job as soon as I left. I followed up afterwards but never heard back.
- Which Excel function do you find most useful?
- When presented with a large dataset, what is your initial course of action?
- Could you identify a novel marketing strategy that is currently impacting the field?
Analyst
I applied for the role and heard back after a month, first through university and then via a recruiter. The initial conversation was a phone interview with HR where they asked some standard behavioral questions. Following that, I had an in-person meeting with five different team members, spending about half an hour with each. It felt more like a casual chat than a formal interview, and the office seemed really nice. They also touched on some fundamental technical topics related to statistics and programming.
- Could you tell me about a project you particularly enjoyed?
- Tell me about yourself and your background.
- What are your thoughts on basic statistics and programming concepts?
