I applied for the job online. Then I had a phone screen with a recruiter, followed by a phone screen with the hiring manager. The final stage was a full-day onsite interview. During the phone screenings, they asked typical questions about myself, my technical skills and experience, and about the company. For the onsite, I met with five engineers who each interviewed me about my skills and experience and then we worked through a technical challenge together.

So I had an initial phone call with the recruiter. She really dug into my experience, why I applied, and what I'm looking for. It felt like she was just checking boxes, which made it super awkward with these long pauses after each question and her mumbling "okay, great, perfect." It gives off a really bad vibe when it feels so robotic. What was even worse is she seemed ready to hang up without letting me ask anything. I asked about their product's capabilities, and she had no answers. Realizing she couldn't answer my questions, I decided to end the call. She mentioned the next step would be talking to the hiring manager, who she thought would be interested, and asked for my availability for a video screen. I sent my availability that day. No response. I followed up the next day. Still no response. Two days after the initial call, I got a super generic rejection email. It was a confusing experience.

First, I had a phone screen with the recruiter. Then, there was a behavioral interview with the tech lead, followed by a technical interview with a senior engineer. After that, I went through four consecutive 45-minute technical interviews, all conducted remotely. They initially said I was great but lacked budget for the role, which was surprising after six interviews over four weeks. It seemed like they'd had me apply for a position they couldn't fund. However, after I left a review, they contacted me to improve my impression. They explained they had budget for two hires, who were both hired while I was interviewing. They completed my interviews hoping to secure budget from next year to hire me for a third position, but unfortunately, that didn't work out.
