First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intuitive.
Mechanical Engineer Intern
The first round of phone interviews covered both experience and technical aspects. They asked about my resume and some basic technical design points like stress, failure modes, and motors. The second round was split into two parts: first, a chat with the team lead that was more behavioral, and second, a session with two design engineers where we discussed product design considerations and concepts, going into detail about design choices.
- Regarding beam design, what are the potential failure modes for a cantilever or column beam under static and dynamic conditions?
- When designing a product button, what factors would you take into account?
- Can you share an experience where you resolved a conflict among team members?
Mechanical Engineer
It started with a 30-minute chat with the hiring manager, where they asked a few technical questions about cantilever beams and my previous work. Then, there was a panel interview with 3-5 engineers. This part focused on my past experience and some technical problems. The recruiter was really slow to respond, usually taking 3-5 days to get back after I emailed. Honestly, it felt like one of the worst hiring processes I've been through.
- Can you describe the relationship between stress and strain?
- What do you know about material strength?
- Could you elaborate on your past projects?
Senior Mechanical Engineer
I had one interview with a recruiter where they asked me about my background, any difficulties I've faced, and what I'd expect to be paid. They mentioned the whole hiring process could stretch out for up to two months. After the first chat, I didn't hear much until I got an automated rejection email.
- Tell me about a difficult situation you've encountered in your professional life.
- What are your salary expectations?
