Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intrepid Investment Bankers.
Investment Banking Analyst
The interview process started with a first round that was purely behavioral questions. After that, the next round was a superday, which also consisted of purely behavioral questions. The only technical questions asked were related to the market and where we see it going. The superday itself was only one round with an MD.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
- What makes you a better candidate than others we might consider?
- What is your outlook on the current market conditions and its future trajectory?
Investment Banking Analyst
An analyst reached out via email a few weeks after an employee referral. This analyst was one of the lead interviewers. The initial phone screen was meant to include an analyst and a VP, but the VP was unavailable, so I spoke with another analyst instead. One analyst asked straightforward questions, while the other seemed confrontational, questioning my past experience and credentials. This second analyst's interviewing approach was unprofessional and disruptive, hindering the planned flow. I tried to stay focused on the first analyst's questions, but the second analyst repeatedly interrupted, possibly indicating the company culture. Neither analyst shared any background information about themselves or the bank. Due to the unprofessionalism, I decided not to proceed with the interview process.
- Can you walk me through your resume and prior work history?
- Could you explain the differences between Balance Sheets and Income Statements across various industries?
Investment Banking Analyst
Applied through an associate at the firm, then a couple phone screens with behaviorals and technicals, and then flew out for 9 interview slots meeting almost all of the employees in the office.
- What strategies can be employed to enhance returns in an LBO?
