Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intrepid Investment Bankers.
Summer Analyst
The interviewers were pretty nice, funny and talkative. They asked only minimal questions about my resume experience and qualifications, mostly focused on technical questions. Overall it was a decent interview, I would've liked to have been more prepared but it was my first one and I wasn't sure what to expect.
- Could you tell me about some recent deals you've been following?
- Can you walk me through your experience and qualifications as listed on your resume?
Analyst
The interview process started with a phone screen, then moved to a 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 video interview. After that, there was a final round 'super day', which was conducted via video but is usually done in person. The phone screen and the first video interview were with analysts and associates and included standard behavioral and technical questions about valuation. The super day had a typical Saturday schedule with several short interviews with people of different seniority levels, covering both behavioral and technical topics.
- What are the different ways to value a company?
- Can you explain the three main valuation methods?
- Describe how altering a specific income statement item impacts the three main financial statements.
Analyst
I applied for the full-time position, sending in my cover letter and resume. The interview process involved an initial interview on campus. Those selected from the first round were then invited to Los Angeles for the final round of interviews.
- Could you analyze the expected revenue, expenses, and valuation for three distinct companies: one in yacht construction, another in yacht repair, and a third that imports toy yachts from China?
- What M&A deals have you been following recently?
