Product Manager
This was a totally backwards process with no transparency into compensation until after speaking with two managers. Then, you talk to talent acquisition who essentially re-interviews you with back-to-back questions about your experience. When I finally asked about compensation, they asked about my previous salary and then low-balled me, saying my request was out of budget. I got a rejection letter afterwards, which was frustrating after two interviews. If I had moved forward, there would have been another in-person interview for 4-5 hours. The whole process felt like a waste of time and showed a lack of respect for candidates' time and effort.
- How do you prioritize projects?
Business Analyst
So normally a recruiter hits you up, but this time the Hiring Manager reached out first. The plan was Hiring Manager, then HR screen, a director, and then a 5-hour in-person panel with like 5 people, which felt like a lot. HR didn't give a salary range, they asked for mine so they wouldn't lowball me, which is cool, but also kinda sketchy if you're not even in their budget. All the interviews were pretty standard behavioral stuff, nothing wild. They did include a junior analyst in one interview, which is fine, but hopefully, their opinion wasn't weighted too heavily. It's been a month since they said they needed to fill the role, and it's still open, which is a bit of a red flag given how many qualified people are out there. This role is kind of a mix of Analyst and Scrum Master, so expect a heavier workload since they don't have a dedicated Scrum Master.

Account Executive
The whole thing took about 3 weeks, from start to finish. There were 4 rounds in total, with 2-3 interviewers each time. The first few interviews were online, but the last one was in person. The final interviews were all back-to-back, with around 6 people, lasting about 5 hours. They also gave me a simple writing test and a personality assessment during the final interviews. The questions were pretty standard, mostly checking if I'd be a good fit for the company culture. Everyone was really nice, and they kept me in the loop about what was happening next.
- Can you tell me about someone you look up to?
- Tell me about a time you didn't agree with a coworker.
- How do you best learn new things?
Cybersecurity Analyst
So, the recruiter for this cybersecurity gig really sold me on it, said I was a perfect fit and the job/benefits were amazing. First interview was fine, then it led to a final stage with six interviews total, two interviewers each. The recruiter, who'd worked there ages, told me I'd meet teammates to talk about how I'd help the security team, plus an HR chat about policies. They told me I was the only one they were considering, so I prepped hard on DevOps and infra-as-code stuff. But man, it was not what I expected. The interviews felt super rigid, like just HR questions, not really about the job. The DevOps folks, who supposedly cared about security, didn't even know basic stuff like DevSecOps or dynamic app security testing. The questions were mostly about my preferences or ethical what-ifs, not actual job skills. It got really repetitive and irrelevant, making it hard to show what I could do. It was a total letdown compared to the engaging day I thought it would be, made me question the whole hiring thing.
