I first got contacted by the head of ops on Linkedin after applying online for this role, which is for a new office in Singapore. We had an initial chat on Skype where I talked about my background. Then we discussed the company's plans for the new Singapore office. After that, I was given a dataset to prepare a Tableau case study and present it. This case interview involved numerical questions testing Tableau skills and a free-style question where I had to design a dashboard and tell a story from the data. We then discussed the company's expansion plans again, and my willingness to travel (I said 30% as I'm still doing my masters). A few days later, they said they were impressed and asked about my salary expectations. I replied that it depends on the responsibilities and team, and asked for salary benchmarks or for them to make an offer. They then sent me information on the median salary in Singapore, mentioning my situation was different due to limited travel and the need for training. I then stated my expected figure (higher than the median) and asked about the appraisal process. About a week later, I got an email saying I wasn't the best fit.

The hiring process is pretty standard for consulting/IT roles, aiming to find the best fit. It usually involves an initial phone screen, which might be with a senior person, followed by a take-home case study. Then there's a hiring manager screen, and it all wraps up with an onsite interview that includes a presentation. Some might find the number of steps and assignments a bit much, but if you're not up for multiple calls and presentations, consulting might not be your thing. On the upside, the people are really nice, honest, and straightforward. No tricks or stressful situations here. They want to see if you can handle different settings and have a 'can-do' approach. InterWorks is super open, and if you do your research, you'll find out what they're looking for. Just a heads-up, the onsite isn't just for show. Like many tech places, they really care about their company culture. Being smart and skilled isn't enough. They're looking for team players who are committed to their own development and motivated to succeed.

The interview process was a bit long because they really care about culture and fit. First, I spoke with an HR person about my background. Then, I had a technical interview with someone on the staff. After that, they gave me a case study to work on and present to the staff. The last two steps involved meeting and interviewing at the local office and then at headquarters.
